My artistic practice delves into the intricate tapestry of student politics and activism in South Africa, meticulously examining the challenges and opportunities encountered by courageous student activists. By interweaving personal experiences, astute observations, and in-depth analysis, my work seeks to explore the crucial themes of free education and social justice.
Drawing from a rich palette of mediums and methodologies, I employ visual, auditory, and interactive elements to unravel the multifaceted nature of student politics in the country. Through extensive research and intimate engagement with student activists, my work unveils the diverse manifestations of student politics and activism, ranging from the mobilization of student organizations and impassioned protest movements to the emergent realm of digital activism.
In excavating the profound influence of student activism, my work probes the impact it wields in shaping national politics and the broader social landscape in South Africa. By fearlessly confronting the obstacles that confront student activists, such as state repression, censorship, and violence, I shed light on the urgent need for strategic planning and restructuring to reenergize the movement and forge a path towards lasting transformation. Moreover, my work critically reflects upon the detrimental narratives perpetuated by both institutional and media forces, which seek to undermine and delegitimize the invaluable contributions of student activists. Through visual narratives, thought-provoking installations, and writing; I challenge these negative narratives, offering alternative perspectives that honour the resilience and visionary spirit of student activists.

In the course of this year, I have embarked on a journey of self-discovery within the vibrant tapestry of student life. Writing, for me, has evolved into a sanctuary where I can lay bare my whims and unveil the shadowed whispers that reside within me. It’s an avenue for sharing and revealing without the weight of implication. I’ve found solace in the act of sharing and pouring my thoughts onto the page, all the while endeavouring not to be consumed by the deluge.
My most recent series of memoirs, a collection that I hold close to my heart, delves into the capacity of words to convey personal fears and experiences. These narratives navigate the labyrinth of student activism and support within the academic institution, shedding light on the myriad layers of this vital journey. They live accompanied by a picture book compiled of some of the images above.
