The work is meant to capture a moment of privacy and a moment of intimacy between one and oneself.
Depicted in the painting are two versions of the same person, the artist thinks of these two figures as the actual person and the subconscious person existing in one space both physical. The work shows the figures in contemplation, the subconscious mind within its subconscious world and the figure within the mundane actual space. The two worlds that each figure occupy start to collide and become one and thus the title dreaming. It shows an ordinary world intersecting with a constructed world. The artist is fond of the idea of having of placing figures in a position of rest and introspection and this work depicts that introspection in a literal but also imaginative manner.
