This series of images attempts to illustrate the pandemic and the affect that it has had on the people of South Africa. exploring the difficulties, frustrations and limitations of having to learn to adapt to this new way of living. The work focuses on “the everyday mundane” of the student body and work force of south Africa during the early stages of the COVID 19 pandemic.
The images explore the sense of restriction and repetition generated by the pandemic through the lens of a deconstructed comic which works as means to document as well as explore the vast expanse of narratives that have taken place during this time. the comic medium has been chosen because of its visual approach in depicting linear narratives. However, these narratives are depicted as forms of nonlinear stories as the works speaks to the disruptive nature of the pandemic on our lives as their own linear narratives. Hence the notion of deconstruction.
